Staring at the Son

Unexplainable Stories, originally uploaded by nickinafrica.

Every wonder what it would be like to stand before the throne of God and to gaze into his face. To look unwavering into his eyes and to acknowledge him for who he is?

I wonder if staring into the face of God is like staring into the sun. The light is simply too intense that even to lock our eyes on it for a moment can cause damage to our retinas.

Maybe God is like that. So big and powerful and bright that we simply have to look away. Even when God spoke to his people on occasion the Bible tell us they trembled in fear. During the exodus, the Israelites pleaded with Moses not to let God speak but to speak for him his voice was so terrifying.

So can you imagine what he looks like?

I believe that we can look into the face of God. Even now. And we can do that because of what Jesus, the Savior of the world, did for all of us. He lived a perfect life - not just to man but blameless before God - and then offered it as the ONLY acceptable sacrifice for the sins of the world.

Jesus took God who we should fear for his wrath and his anger because of the blood on our hands and allows us to look into the face of God with a HOLY fear - of reverence and love.

When Christ died for us he for the first time since the dawn of creation allowed man to enter before the presence of God.

We are free and forgiven and we can know God and his ways and his love and his plan for us.

If we just look to the Son.

Excellent words Harry. I've often wondered what it would be like. As for the sun, it's amazing that we are 93 million miles away and it still hurts our eyes. I like to think that the light of God himself would envelop us wholly and completely. Much like the title of my other photo :)
